About this campaign
In the spring of 2016, Michelle was diagnosed with idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. She started treatment with medication and eventually went on oxygen. In the fall of 2017 she took a medical leave from teaching and was placed on the lung transplant list. She began deteriorating in the winter and awaited a transplant in the ICU. After a long and hard fought battle, Michelle passed away on January 1, 2018. Michelle's legacy continues on as several of her organs were donated to both save and improve the lives of others.
Michelle was a beloved mother, wife, daughter, teacher, and friend to so many. Her spirit was strong and her laugh was contagious. She impacted so many young lives during her 22 years as a Kindergarten teacher.
There is no cure for pulmonary fibrosis. Medications can slow the progression of the disease but ultimately a lung transplant is the only option to prolong life. The cause of Michelle's condition is unknown. This campaign is to honor Michelle's life and legacy by raising funds to support further research of pulmonary fibrosis. Thank you for your support!
