About this campaign

Historic Mission San Gabriel was founded September 8, 1771, the fourth of the 21 California Missions founded by the Spanish Franciscan Friars. In the early morning hours of July 11, 2020, a "four-alarm" structure fire destroyed most of the roof and much of the interior of the church, including the newly restored pews. Renovation was already underway to prepare for the 250th Anniversary of the founding of the Mission in September 2021.

The restoration is underway; at this time a temporary roof has been placed and the debris from the damaged roof and pews removed. The next steps will include assessments of the interior paint to prepare for the restoration of the walls. The replacement of the roof is anticipated to begin approximately February 2021.


The orders of the Native Daughters and Native Sons of the Golden West are fraternal and patriotic organizations of California born individuals whose projects include restoration and preservation of historic landmarks in our state.

Given the large need for rebuilding Mission San Gabriel, we have joined forces to contribute to the rebuilding fund.
