Founded in 1909 at the City College of New York, Sigma Alpha Mu was originally a Jewish fraternity, but in 1953 it began to accept members from all backgrounds. Sigma Alpha Mu created a service project called “Bounce for Beats,” where members bounce basketballs to simulate the heartbeat and raise money for the American Heart Association and other worthy organizations.
