"we help co-host and participate in an ovarian cancer survivors motherwalk on the weekend of mother's day annually. this event is primarily organized by one of our patient advocate groups (comprised of our cancer nurses, survivors, and many other supporting members). it is a particularly special event for those daughters whose mothers are going through or have gone through ovarian cancer treatments. with the motherwalk occurring annually on mother's day weekend, it often coincides with national nurses' week, so there is a lot of gratitude also extended to our nurses for taking excellent care of our patients. this is a picture of our division of gynecologic oncology at uab; we participate in the motherwalk every year, and do our best to advocate for our patients with cancer. ovarian cancer and other gynecologic cancers are rarer than breast cancer and other more well-known cancers, and so ovarian cancer funding is usually not as robust or ubiquitous as breast cancer or colon cancer funding (as examples). we fight with our cancer patients throughout their disease (and hopeful cure), as well as host and organize events to raise funds and awareness for our patients, who inspire us to keep fighting along side them. i am a long-time customer of customink, for cancer charity events, as well as all our events and functions for which we need apparel or accessories. everyone at customink is friendly, polite, considerate, and truly invested in your event or project, and in delivering you the highest quality product. with every order, after delivery, they consistently follow up with you to make sure everything is the way it should be. rare for a company to have a collection of so many people who are uniformly pleasant, knowledgeable, and great to work with." - http://nlovca.org/ - ovarian cancer mother walk (May 12, 2012)
