Geoporter at the Whale's Tale in Costa Rica

"Geoporter celebrated its one-year as a volunteer-based organization educating and training community members, youth, and teachers in Bahia Ballena, Costa Rica how to use GPS and Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to investigate their community. We celebrated our 1-year mid-August by surprising project volunteers with t-shirts that had been donated to our project. The community is using the technologies to map and monitor whale sightings in the National Park, trash in the community to identify concentrations of trash in order to place trash cans and take actions to prevent people from littering. The schools are using the technology to map trash, understand boundary limits, hurricanes, earthquakes, and ancient civilizations around the world. What's really cool is after having received the t-shirts, some businesses are allowing their employees to wear the t-shirts as part of their traditional work uniform.
