"On Saturday, November 2nd at Wells Community Academy High School, the PH Players represented the Department in the SECA Basketball Tournament. The team included, JoAnne Bardwell, Kish Broomfield, Winfred Rawls, Omayra Giachello, Dr. Hasbrouck, Michael Hayden, Estrelitta Jones, Stephen Konya, David Miller, Jamor Pearson, Elisha Reid, John Sudduth and Stephen Carrig as team coach. Other State agencies represented in the tournament were the Attorney General’s Office (AG), Department of Children and Family Services (DCFS), Department of Corrections (DOC), Department of Transportation (DOT), Central Management Services (CMS), Illinois State Police (ISP), and the Governor’s Office (GO).
The PH Players faced off against the Governor’s Office in the second game of the tournament. The GO got off to a good start and maintained a lead throughout the first half. During the second half, the PH Players chipped away at the GO lead but were not able to close the gap. The final score was 18-10. Nevertheless, the PH Players gave a great effort! By the end of the afternoon, ISP had won the championship in a tournament that raised $1,100.00 for the American Cancer Society.
A big thank you to our team players, scrimmage players in Chicago and Springfield and staff, family and friends that purchased tickets, made donations and came out to cheer the team on. Also, a big thank you to Wells Community High School for hosting the tournament and providing the concessions. The Jesse White Tumblers provided an amazing half time show performance! All in all, the tournament proved to be an exciting and fun experience for the PH Players and the team looks forward to participating in next year’s tournament. In the meantime, the PH Players have thought about continuing to play in the months ahead as a fun and “keep fit” health activity. "
