The conference was held in Reston, Virginia and hosted 70 local middle school students who had the opportunity to engage in exciting activities in the areas of science, technology, engineering, and math, and listen to inspirational guest speakers. The ScI2YC team was entirely made up of students at a local high school who worked tirelessly to create the great event. "My company was involved in a philanthropy project at Embry Rucker Homeless Shelter in Reston, VA. The shelter created a landscaping project for us, which included mulching, weeding, planting trees and flowers, etc. We had a blast and took a group photo next to their main entrance. I am the director of philanthropy at my company, and was looking for matching t-shirts based off of my design that we can continue to use for our Brittenford Systems philanthropy projects. "All spell breaks loose! Every fall, Forge Drama students compete in the Virginia Theatre Association high school theatre festival in Reston, VA. This year we performed part one of "The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee" to a full house & a standing ovation! "This pictures shows a few members of Team STABLM8 who participated in the Reston, Virginia Take Steps for Crohn's & Colitis Walk on October 16, 2011. Take Steps is CCFA's national evening walk and celebration and the nation's largest event dedicated to finding cures for digestive diseases, which affects over 1.4 million American adults and children. What makes this event so special is that we (14 team members in total) walked in memory of Melissa Bealafeld Espinoza, wife, daughter, sister, and close friend, who was diagnosed with ulcerative colitis at the age of 8. For 28 years, Melissa lived with the everyday physical and mental pain and anxiety associated with the disease. She managed the disease with a variety of drugs and was hospitalized with serious flare-ups on numerous occasions. In October 2009, a routine colonoscopy discovered that Melissa had precancerous lesions on her colon. At the same time, a mass was discovered in her liver that was later diagnosed as cholangiocarcinoma (cancer of the bile ducts). Melissa was courageous during her 11 month fight and never gave up hope for a cure. Unfortunately, she lost her battle with the disease on September 29, 2010 - her 36th birthday. These fabulous t-shirts were created and worn to honor her memory and to celebrate her life. We all miss her so much!"

"In order to honor our wonderful friend, Nancy Sparks, who passed away from ovarian cancer this past fall, we walked/ran in the NOCC 5k in Reston VA. Nancy's favorite color was pink and had enjoyed running while she was still healthy. She was always the loudest cheerleader on the race course, so we tried to be as pink and as spirited as we could be!!"
