And with the growing popularity of performance wear and blended tees, polyester\u2019s comeback is stronger than Britney\u2019s!<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Polyester is a synthetic material that is used in a number of our styles.\u00a0 Its breathable quality \u2013 yes, I said breathable polyester \u2013 makes it a great fabric for a lot of our <a title=\"Athletics Styles\" href=\"http:\/\/www.customink.com\/categories\/athletics\/44\" target=\"_blank\">athletic styles<\/a> and <a title=\"Performance Wear\" href=\"http:\/\/www.customink.com\/categories\/performance-wear\/47\/styles\" target=\"_blank\">performance wear<\/a>.\u00a0 It can have anti-microbial properties to keep you from smelling musty post-work out and can be treated to dry quickly and wick (pull) moisture away from the skin.\u00a0 Polyester can shrink when exposed to extreme heat but, in most cases, will keep its original shape.\u00a0 Popular styles like the <a title=\"Badger B-Dry Performance T\" href=\"http:\/\/www.customink.com\/styles\/badger-b-dry-performance-t\/160800\" target=\"_blank\">Badger B-Dry Performance T<\/a> and the <a title=\"Colorblock Performance T\" href=\"http:\/\/www.customink.com\/styles\/sport-tek-colorblock-performance-t\/169600\" target=\"_blank\">Sport-Tek Colorblock Performance T<\/a> are both great examples of 100% polyester athletic choices.<\/p>\n<p>Poly can also be used in combination with other fabrics \u2013 most often cotton \u2013 to produce a blend.\u00a0 On our site you\u2019ve probably noticed styles like the <a title=\"Hanes 50\/50 T\" href=\"http:\/\/www.customink.com\/styles\/hanes-50-50-t\/169800\" target=\"_blank\">Hanes 50\/50 T<\/a> or the <a title=\"Jerzees 50\/50 T\" href=\"http:\/\/www.customink.com\/styles\/jerzees-50-50-t\/138800\" target=\"_blank\">Jerzees 50\/50 T<\/a>.\u00a0 Maybe you\u2019ve thought, \u201cWow, they really take liberties with their naming process\u201d instead of connecting the term \u201c50\/50\u201d with the materials used in the shirt \u2013 50% cotton and 50% polyester.\u00a0 This blended fabric is popular among t-shirt makers and used for a number of reasons.<\/p>\n<p>1)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\"> Soften the texture of the fabric <\/span>&#8211; There are many ways to soften cotton but one of the most direct ways is to add some poly to it.\u00a0 The polyester can improve the way the material lays on the body and can help prevent wrinkles.\u00a0 This softer feel can make a brand new shirt feel worn in, like you\u2019ve had it for years.\u00a0 A perfect example being the <a title=\"Next Level 60-40 T-Shirt\" href=\"http:\/\/www.customink.com\/styles\/next-level-60-40-t-shirt\/172300#image-link\" target=\"_blank\">Next Level 60\/40 T<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>2)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Prevent shrinkage<\/span> &#8211; As I said before, polyester (unless exposed to extreme heat) pretty much keeps its shape as it is a synthetic fiber.\u00a0 A tee made of blended material will be much less likely to shrink than one made of 100% cotton.<\/p>\n<p>3)\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 <span style=\"text-decoration: underline;\">Increase durability<\/span> &#8211; Since polyester is a man-made fiber, man decided to make it extremely strong.\u00a0 This is why poly and poly blend shirts can wash and dry so well \u2013 they can hold up to a lot of man-handling.\u00a0 This is another reason why 100% poly shirts are great for teamwear\u2013 they can withstand a lot of abuse on the field.<\/p>\n<p>Hopefully this will make you fall in love with polyester, either for the first time or all over again.\u00a0 Now just because it\u2019s making a comeback doesn\u2019t mean you can revive that polyester suit from 1975.\u00a0 But it does mean that, hopefully, you can look at 100% poly and blended shirts in a whole new light.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Ever wish you knew more about the fabrics used to make our products?\u00a0 Thought you did, so I\u2019ve dedicated this blog post to schooling you on polyester \u2013 a \u201cgo-to\u201d fabric in many of our athletic and t-shirt styles.\u00a0 It\u2019s come a long way since the very \u201ccolorful\u201d clothes of the 70s (that was the nicest way I could say it).
