About this campaign

This October we will host our third annual 5k. It doesn’t matter where you are that week, you can participate. That’s right, you can run and record your race on your smartphone app, GPS watch, local track, fitbit etc... and see where you stack up against fellow participants. Run or walk, and record your time on race day, then submit it to the race director and see where you stack up. Think you have to be an olympic athlete to compete? Nope! There are walkers and runners divisions, as well as gendernd age divisions, and the coveted overall winner within the walker and runner divisions. This race will be to benefit St. Christopher Truckers Development and Relief Fund. We ask that you make a donation to SCF to participate. We don't care if it's $1 or $1,000 (donations are tax deductible)

You can donate when you buy a race shirt.
Race shirts can be purchased here!
All proceeds from shirts goes directly to SCF

Or you can donate at http://truckersfund.org/

Or mail a donation to: SCF PO Box 30763, Knoxville, TN 37930
Make donations payable to: St. Christopher Truckers Development & Relief Fund

To register for the race email: jon.narron@gmail.com
Or message Jon Narron on Facebook
Please include your full name, age on race week, and if you plan on competing against runners or walkers.

The St. Christopher Truckers Development and Relief Fund (SCF) is a 501(c)(3), truck driver charity that helps semi-truck drivers whose medical problems have led to financial hardship. The SCF is also working to provide programs that will benefit professional drivers and the trucking industry.
The SCF helps semi-truck drivers and their families who have financial needs due to current medical problems. Assistance may be in the form of paying living expenses while recovering from illness and out of work, providing information on how to negotiate price reductions with medical providers and hospitals and/or direct payment for medical services or prescription drugs.
Studies have shown that more than 70% of the 3.5 million professional truck drivers in the U.S. have one or more serious health problems such as obesity, diabetes, sleep disorders and cardiovascular disease. Truck drivers also lack the same access to health that most Americans enjoy.
Access is limited because drivers work irregular hours, spend long-durations away from home, and are unable to navigate side streets and parking lots in their trucks to get to a clinic, pharmacy or hospital. Compounding the problem is the fact that more than one-third of truck drivers do not have health insurance.
The unfortunate result of these circumstances is that drivers a often unable to get treatment in the early stages of disease, allowing the condition to progress to a much more severe state. Minor illnesses become severe, leading to hospitalization and disability. The driver then may lose his/her commercial drivers license and become unable to work. This crees a downward spiral that leads to extreme financial hardship.
After witnessing hundreds of truck drivers and their families struggle to survive as a result of catastrophic illness or injury, Dave Nemo, host of the Dave Nemo Show (XM Radio Channel 171 – Open Road) was compelled to take action. He found a willing partner in Dr. John McElligott (“Dr. John”). Together, they launched a truck driver charity to come to the aid of professional drivers in need. The organization was incorporated as a not-for-profit organization in 2007.
