About this campaign

BackStory, an American history podcast produced by the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities, has taken its audience on an exploration of the history behind today’s headlines for more than nine years and now 200 episodes. You can help ensure BackStory achieves another 200 episodes by supporting production through this fundraiser.

Hosts_Composite-Highjpg(BackStory hosts Ed Ayers, Nathan Connolly, Joanne Freeman and Brian Balogh.)

BackStory, produced by the Virginia Foundation for the Humanities, was created by Andrew Wyndham and launched in 2008. First introduced as a “Car Talk”-style monthly radio show, BackStory then featured noted historians Peter Onuf, Ed Ayers and Brian Balogh as its hosts.

Today, BackStory is a weekly podcast with historians Joanne Freeman and Nathan Connolly joining Ayers and Balogh. Together they continue to make history engaging, accessible and downright fun.

BackStory's 200th episode debuts on Friday, June 30, on Panoply, our podcast network partner. Celebrate with us by contributing to our fundraiser and helping us make another 200 episodes featuring our signature mix of quality storytelling and historical analysis.

I began listening to BackStory after hearing Brian talk about it at the American Society for Legal History's conference last year. Looking forward to many more amazing episodes!
