About this campaign

All money and donations will go directly to paying off medical and travel bills associated with Hope's surgery, and my traveling home to be with her through it. Hope and I greatly appreciate all that has and will be given to us, and thank you all for your support.

My name is Holden Russell, and I am a Specialist in the Virginia Army National Guard. I have been under federal active duty orders for the last year in Fort Sill, Oklahoma, while my wife, Hope, resides at home in Richmond, Virginia.

Shortly after the new year, Hope was diagnosed with thyroid cancer. The plan was to have the cancer surgically removed, followed by radiation to ensure that it wouldn’t spread to any other parts of her body. I was devastated by the news, but grateful that the Army provided me with emergency leave so that I could be home for a couple of days before and after the surgery with her.

In order to give her body time to recover, Hope will be out of work with minimal pay for at least 6 weeks, which drops us down to one salary. It is difficult to be in this position asking for help, but extended time away from work, hospital bills and travel expenses accumulate quickly. To help with some of the costs, I’ve created a shirt that I feel represents the journey we have found ourselves on — the mountain represents Hopes never ending will to push forward, while the colors of the sunset (Teal, Pink, and Blue) represent the specific fight against Thyroid Cancer.

We appreciate you taking the time to hear our story and are incredibly grateful for any and all support we may receive!

I don't think that anyone should feel alone.... I would like HOPE to know that I'm praying for her daily and hope she enjoys every day knowing that there are people who care about her.
