About this campaign
The Canine Advocacy Program (CAP) was created in 2009 to provide a highly trained Canine Advocate that would accompany a child victim to interviews as well as court appearances.
CAP was developed by its director, Daniel Cojanu as result of an idea from a coworker while employed as a Victim Services supervisor. After researching various programs around the country, it was felt that Michigan desperately needed such a program to assist child victims who were going to be required to testify.
With a relationship spanning ten years, CAP has partnered with Leader Dogs for the Blind in Rochester, MI to utilize career-changed leader dog candidates for the program. The result of this relationship has been extremely successful, with 30 Canine Advocates spread throughout the State of Michigan. These well-trained dogs are currently utilized by 22 County Prosecutor’s Offices, four Child Care Advocacy Centers, and three Domestic Violence / Sexual Assault Programs.
The work of these Canine Advocates has been widely accepted by many courts throughout the State of Michigan.
Supporters
I am a proud supporter of our therapy dog in Ottawa County!
I've seen the good that our county canine, Griffin does and it's something no human can accomplish.
Its a good cause wanted to support Nicole Kennedy.
I work for the Prosecutor's Office In Allegan County; and I feel this program is great to comfort and support kids as they go through the Court process. We hope to be adding a Canine support dog to our staff within this year.
Proud to support both CAP and Leader Dogs!
We love the program and are owners of a CAP dog.
