September 20, 1992 was the official date of charter for Cross Winds UMC opening our doors with 129 people.
The roots of our mission statement and values, “Drawn together to Share Good NEWS" was created when Pastor Dan Johnson was packing for a BWCA (canoe) trip. He pulled out a compass and realized that the four point of the compass spelled out NEWS. It instantly clicked that the compass should become the symbol representing our mission and core values.
During Cross Winds Expansion in mid 2000, each person received a small rock to be carried reminding us that Jesus Christ is our rock – the cornerstone upon which our church is built. The rocks reminded us to be praying for God’s will to be done.
In that light, Cross Winds has always welcomed the community into our building, and the community has responded! The building has been used over the years for pre-schools, CROSS Community Players performances, Boy Scout meetings, Business Networking (BNI) meetings, all conference trainings, nationally recognized speaker engagements, and so much more!
In the same vein, we have partnered with the City of Maple Grove from 2005 to present to be host for park and ride commuters using daily bus service to downtown Minneapolis.
The children's, youth and family vision at Cross Winds has always been at our core. Kids are getting to know that God is their friend and loves them very much, and that they are Made in His image! The thriving birth-twelfth grade program has always grown and changed to meet the needs of families.
Cross Winds is seeing growth in worship attendance, and there is a positive vibe – the Holy Spirit as Joy – that dominates the fellowship times.
