About this campaign

Cure SMA is a foundation fighting to cure a rare genetic disorder that attacks the respiratory system. A lot of cases require the child to receive a tracheostomy and mechanical ventilation that is usually permanent.

Our son, Wesley, had a rare form of this disorder called SMARD (Spinal Muscular Atrophy with Respiratory Distress). His diaphragm, a muscle used for breathing, was attacked and paralyzed by this disorder resulting in the need for a tracheostomy and permanent mechanical ventilation. He passed away right before his second birthday on October 13, 2017. There have been breakthroughs and advances in treating SMA, but not the SMARD form of it since it is so much more rare and affects a different chromosome.We pray for a cure, so that other parents don’t have to go through this in the future. Help us find a cure!
