About this campaign
On October 6th LWNYC raced to Queens, NY to rescue a 3-4 month old kitten in distress. Our 715th rescue of 2019.
She was immobile, malnourished, dehydrated, and suffering from a disabling and very painful leg injury. We rushed her to the Astoria Animal Emergency Hospital, where she was immediately given an IV and pain medication. Angie, named after the loving vet tech who took care of her during her admission, had to have her front left leg amputated due to the severity of her injury and infection.
Angie is now safe, warm, and recovering with her foster mom, Zeynep. Zeynep writes, "It only took a day. Angie now acts like all her troubles were a bad dream. She trusts that nothing but good will come her way from now on. Her supporters proved it to her."
Angie is one of the lucky stray/feral cats on the streets of New York, she was found and has been given excellent care. Please help LWNYC continue our trap/neuter/release (TNR) efforts with stray/feral colonies in the five boroughs of New York, to help end the needless suffering of street cats like Angie.
TNR is a humane and effective way to manage stray/feral cat colonies. Each cat trapped gets a once over from a vet to address any underlying health problems and is vaccinated against rabies. They are then either spayed or neutered, and given time to recover. These independent cats are then returned to their home where they are free to live out their lives in the colonies they were born into and are familiar with. Should we discover that a cat in our care is a good candidate for fostering/adopting, we then take the necessary steps to find them safe and loving homes.
Rooted in science, TNR efforts are proven to reduce colony size through ending the breeding cycle of stray/feral cats. Please help us continue our TNR efforts in New York City, and save more cats like Angie from a lifetime of pain.
Little Wanderers is a nonprofit organization 501(c) (3) rescuing/TNR'-ing the neediest cats in the toughest areas of NYC. We are at capacity with 180 cats in our care looking for homes. We respond to an average of 25 urgent rescue requests per day, and we care for 200 feral cats daily. Many of the cats rescued by Little Wanderers are sick and injured and require urgent and emergency vetting which is costly, considering the high volume of rescues we take into our care. Weekly, Little Wanderers rescues 8-10 sick and injured cats from the most underserved areas in NYC.
