About the Artist:
This piece was drawn by artist Kiya Cotton, 12, of Pasadena, MD. As the daughter of a biracial couple, Kiya sees the importance of equality and is an adamant supporter of the Black Lives Matter movement. With the recent events of police injustice and brutality in George Floyd’s murder on the street, and Breonna Taylor’s murder while sleeping - and all of the other black lives that have been cut short due to police brutality, Kiya was inspired to create. She hopes for a world where everyone is treated equally and one where she doesn’t have to fear for the safety of her family. Kiya hopes this drawing helps build that unity ♥️

We have a lifetime of learning and listening to do. We need constant reminders that the fight for equality and the dismantling of unjust and racist policies in this country is never ending.

I am an almost 60 year-old white male. I despise injustice of any kind and want to do what I can to show black Americans I stand with them (together we are “us”).
