About this campaign

I was diagnosed with two forms of Stage 1a breast cancer in January of 2022. I will spare too many details except to say that I promptly made the decision to get a bilateral mastectomy and reconstructive surgery. I was one of the very lucky ones to have caught it early enough and to have just the right genetic makeup to not have to go through chemotherapy or radiation. I am on an estrogen blocker called Tamoxifen which I'll likely be on for 5-10 year. This drug causes a brain fog or what is referred to as "chemo brain" and causes a lot of confusion and memory loss. Between this and aging, I'm pretty sure my brain is mush. If you'd like to read about my breast cancer journey feel free to drop by my page where I've written in detail about my experience. https://saltwaterheartpatricia.com This experience has taught me more about myself than ever before. I used to (and sometimes still go through bouts) experience major depression and for years was on Prozac to manage it. I wasn't sure I'd ever be able to get off the meds but when cancer struck it rattled me to the bones and all of that changed. Yes, I cried and cried and cried some more. I was devastated to hear the words "You have cancer" but it also awoke something in me. Instead of being angry and asking why, my faith in the Lord grew stronger and I knew that He gave me this experience to use as a tool to reach others, to bring awareness to women about breast cancer, but especially to encourage other women to not only listen to their bodies but seek preventative measures which can so often save them from a more difficult path. I've never known forgiveness the way I have since being diagnosed. It's been a blessing and I'm beyond grateful to have gone through this. I've learned to be fearless (mostly), to open my heart and love and to go after what it is I've always wanted.
