About this campaign
Girls Reaching All Concepts of Excellence (GRACE) is a mentoring and youth development program offered to girls in grades 9-12 at Blytheville High School. Since it is a fairly new program, we have to begin our budget from scratch. Our program does not accept payment for becoming a mentee as we do not want money to become a barrier for anyone wishing to participate. Furthermore, committee members, mentors, and volunteers alike are not compensated, but are nontheless willing to donate their time, efforts, and funds to ensure the success of this program and its mission. In order to obtain the resources needed to fully accomplish our mission and vision, we must rely on fundraising and donations from generous supporters. This year, our goal is to raise $10,000 to cover the cost of promotional and training materials, curriculum development, enrichment activities, educational trips, and events for our girls.
IT ALL STARTED WHEN... A group of us at Blytheville High School recognized a need for positive role models who could empower our female students, and guide them toward a better and brighter future. BHS is located in the Northeast delta region of Arkansas, an area with a high level of poverty. Seventy-four percent of our students come from low-income households, with approximately twenty percent qualifying as homeless. In such an impoverished community as this, many students are at risk of suspension, chronic absenteeism, teenage pregnancy, retention, low self-esteem, low academic achievement, and other challenges that can prevent or delay their graduation. As a result of wanting to see our students succeed, we met on April 6, 2017 and created GRACE, and began implementation in August of that year. We were able to serve over 20 young ladies, and recruited 6 mentors primarily from the school district and community.
Our mission is to empower young ladies to become the best versions of themselves by equipping them with knowledge and skills necessary for success.
Our vision is that the young ladies we impact will have higher self-esteem, improved peer interactions, and a sense of self-worth and identity. With us, they will also acquire life, coping, leadership, and conflict resolution skills they can apply on a daily basis. Ultimately, they will develop into GRACEful women.
