Miracles For Marie Smith - #MiraclesforMarie

Our Sister Marie was Diagnosed Thursday May 16th, 2019 with Invasive Ductal Carcinoma. The first week of May our sister discovered a lump in her breast. Nervous, she and her husband Jeff made an appointment for a mammogram. On Tuesday May 14th Marie went in for her mammogram only to hear the news that day, that it didn't look good and confirmed by the doctor that he was certain it was cancer. They immediately took Marie in for a Biopsy in which she, her family and extended family anxiously awaited the news. With no family history this was very unexpected and they are devastated by the news that it is in fact Breast Cancer.

She has been incredibly blessed to have gotten into one of the best Oncologists at Huntsman Cancer Center. They ran some further tests and found that she tested positive for the progesterone and estrogen receptors however, her HER2 (which is the type of cancer she has) is negative which we understand may possibly mean it is slower growing. We are hopeful but still left with a lot of questions. They have found that her tumor is a little larger than the size of a golf ball and a bit smaller than the size of a clementine. It was also found to be in one lymph node.

She was hopeful to find out which stage she is in but hasn't any answers. Due to the large size of her tumor this puts her most likely in stage 2 with it being in one lymph node. They won't know until they take her in for surgery whether or not it has spread to other lymph nodes which would put her into stage 3. We are praying that this is not the case.

She has much ahead of her! Many more obstacles and hardships await her but we know that our sister is a fighter! She has several more doctors appointments before the oncologist will decide on a course of action. We are unsure of the order but she is facing, surgery for a double mastectomy, chemo, radiation and hormone therapy. Further down the road she faces reconstructive surgery as well.
