About this campaign

Buy a Hobo Fest t-shirt for your kids and/or yourself to support the Port Huron & Detroit Railroad Historical Society! Then wear your t-shirt to the Hobo Fest on September 15th and 16th of 2017!

The Port Huron and Detroit Railroad Historical Society hosts Hobo Fest annually on the second weekend in September.

This year it will be held Friday, September 15th & Saturday, September 16th, 2017 at the former property of The Port Huron & Detroit Railroad, located at 2100 32nd Street in Port Huron.

The event celebrates Port Huron’s history as a vital international transport center, the city’s struggle to overcome the economic depression and the courage and resourcefulness of those that rode the rails seeking work and adventure.

The 13TH annual hobo gathering will feature a Spam carving contest and cook off, Hobo Royalty coronation, acoustic music, children's activities and much more.

Hobo Fest is a FREE family friendly, educational event that gathers people together of all ages to experience the life and adventures of the hobo.

Please bring lawn chairs and dress casually according to the weather.

*Hobo Fest is a free event. However, donations are gratefully accepted and are tax deductible. All proceeds are used to restore our building and expand our growing collection of rolling stock.

Formed in 2007, the purpose of The Port Huron & Detroit Railroad Historical Society is: To collect, archive, preserve, and present, all for the education of the community, historical documents, photographs, drawings, artifacts and equipment relating to The Port Huron & Detroit Railroad Company and its predecessors, The Port Huron Southern Railway and The Detroit Bay City & Western Railroad, as wel...l as the Grand Trunk Western/Canadian National, and the Pere Marquette/Chesapeake and Ohio. To obtain, restore and maintain the roundhouse at 32nd Street for use as a museum, as well as other structures, artifacts, and rolling stock, as they may become available; To accumulate, conserve, and index all data relating to the above-named railroads for the use of scholars, rail fans and scale
modelers.

Current fundraising efforts are dedicated to returning Alco-built S1 #52, one of the first two diesel locomotives owned by the PH&D RR, to our museum site; moving former Grand Trunk Western Refrigerator Car #206447 from Holland, Michigan to our site; restoration of PH&D Caboose #52/#62 at our site; and restoration of the interior of our main museum/ office building, the former headquarters/ general offices of the PH&D, built in three phases between 1922 -1948.
