As you may know, after countless tests and scans, Kevin Bohn (our son, brother, boyfriend, grandson, nephew, cousin, roommate and friend) was recently diagnosed with Diffuse Large B Cell Lymphoma (DLBCL), a subtype of Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. We knew that he had a long and difficult road ahead, but we had no idea what that would actually entail. And we had no idea what a true fighter Kev is!

Kev started his first round of chemo on 5/17/19. And a week later he started to bleed internally. The tumors in his body were shrinking quickly due to the chemo working, which caused a lot of internal bleeding. He had a procedure done to embolize blood vessels that they thought were the problem. Unfortunately this was just a temporary fix. He woke up with excruciating pain in his stomach and massive internal bleeding. He was losing an insane amount of blood and actually coded and had to be resuscitated 3 different times. Again, he had another procedure to stop the bleeding coming from an artery going to the spleen. This procedure literally saved his life!

Unfortunately this too was temporary, and he continued to bleed. The only option left to truly save his life was an extremely risky and radical surgery. The surgery team went in and removed his stomach and his spleen and reattached his esophagus to his intestines. And yet again, Kev defied the odds and survived the surgery. HIs surgeon, Dr. Harris had never seen a case like this!

Through this all, Kev has been fighting with such patience and grace. His positive energy is a force to be reckoned with. He spent almost two weeks in ICU in critical condition and most of that time was spent with a breathing tube on a ventilator, and yet his amazingly compassionate self was shining through! As one of his favorite nurses said, “Kev, you have filled this hospital with so much hope.”

Kev has proven without a doubt that he has a passion for life like no other! His road to health and recovery will be longer now then we originally thought. He will be in the hospital for the next 4-6 weeks healing from the surgery. We are still waiting to find out when he will start back up with the second round of chemo. But even with all he has been through, the surgeons are amazed at how well he is doing, and are still very hopeful for a full recovery.

As you can imagine, this has been such a terrifying turn of events. We are trying to support him and his future anyway we can, not knowing what the lasting effects of all this will be. Any funds raised will go to Kevin to help with his current medical/living costs as well as any future needs since he is on an extended leave from work and who knows where else this journey might take him. One thing we are sure of is Kev is the strongest person we know. He is our hero. We are so appreciative of all the love and support he is receiving. We truly can’t thank you enough.
