Leyla was born on October 31, 2018 with Congenital Heart Disease (CHD). On November 5, 2018 she underwent her first, of several, open heart surgeries. Only 1 in 100 babies are born with some kind of heart defect, Leyla is one of those babies that needs significant intervention and potentially one day may need a new heart. On November 19th at 4:00am Leyla coded and received CPR for approximately 30 minutes; the amazing nurses and doctors were able to get her back! We can only imagine how Abbey and Dan felt receiving this phone call. Leyla has been given a pacemaker (which is large for a tiny baby) due to a complete heart block and has been on the ECMO machine (which does her heart and lung function). Leyla continues to be a fighter during her peaks and valleys. Prayers are needed each and every day! Abbey and Dan are doing an amazing job as parents knowing that each huge step forward may lead to a little step back in her progress. She is currently on a feeding tube and Abbey has graciously offered her breast milk to other moms in need! I am so in awe of her for thinking of others while going through something like this. Abbey has a heart of gold and deserves all we can give her and her precious family. We are doing this fundraiser to not only raise money but to bring awareness to CHD. Our thoughts and prayers go to all those families fighting this everyday battle.
