"‘The Boy Who Lived’ remains a symbol of everything for which we are fighting: the triumph of good, the power of innocence, the need to keep resisting."
Potterhead Running Club is pleased to present the fifth event of the 2020 season:
Lightning Has Struck 5k!
"They’ve all got code names, but you can usually tell..."
Young men of color are at a considerable statistical disadvantage pursuing careers in computer technology and software development. Despite the booming pace of tech industry growth, young men of color are a fraction of the incoming workforce. According to research by The Center for Investigative Reporting, Black employees make up only 2.5% (median) of Silicon Valley employees.
Our charity partner for Lightning Has Struck 5k is All Star Code!
All Star Code teaches coding, soft skills, and an entrepreneurial mindset to young men of color through their year round programming. With intensive programs offered in New York City, Pittsburgh, and Jersey City, the point of All Star Code is to create economic opportunity by helping close the wealth, income, and opportunity gaps for young men of color. They believe -- and we firmly share in this belief -- that by working towards a more diverse and equitable playing field, they can help build a more innovative and profitable future for all.
"We’re all human, aren’t we? Every human life is worth the same, and worth saving."
Our Castle's strength comes in lifting people up, rather than pulling anyone down. When we raise our wands in unity, the world has seen what we can achieve. To see systemic change in our lifetimes, we must all agree to stand together in making that change happen.
Available in multiple fabrics and styles from tees, to tanks, to hoodies, proceeds from the event shirts will also support All Star Code!
"I’d like to appeal to all our listeners to emulate their example, perhaps by casting a protective charm over any Muggle dwellings in your street. Many lives could be saved if such simple measures are taken."
Remember that this is a 'virtual' active event, so you can complete your five kilometer distance however, wherever and whenever you want! How? You can walk, run, skip, dance, or saunter. Where? You can do it around your neighborhood, on the treadmill, or on your favorite trail. When? You can do it on a Monday night, a Thursday morning, or a Saturday afternoon. It's all up to you!
For some extra fun, the optional 'run day' for the event is Friday, July 31: Harry's birthday! If you want to join thousands of others around the world completing some or all of the distance on that day, you'll be in some magical company!
Registration closes at midnight on August 9.
