Campfire Critters Animal Sanctuary started with 2 miniature horses who were rehomed to our campground in Hayes, Virginia. In four years we’ve grown our rescued and rehomed animal family to over 30 critters, and we have no plans to stop there! That is why we have started an official nonprofit animal sanctuary. Here is our story: ​ Jellystone Park at Gloucester Point is a owned and operated by the Gedicke and Peck families, and we love animals! The campground started adopting barnyard animals in need of a new home four years ago. Our campers have enjoyed seeing and interacting with the animals during short, scheduled pony rides and petting zoos over the last few years. ​ As our herd grew and requests to take in more animals increased we realized our animals needed their own dedicated organization. Therefore, in January of 2020, we created a nonprofit animal sanctuary. As a nonprofit, the animal sanctuary is eligible for grants. We can also create fundraisers and supply drives to help house, feed, and care for our growing flock. In addition, as an animal sanctuary we are be better situated to work with and accept transfers from animal control, humane societies, rescues, and other sanctuaries. ​ As of October 26th, 2020, Campfire Critters Animal Sanctuary is home to: 5 mini horses, 7 horses, 3 donkeys, 2 alpacas, 3 goats, 1 sheep, 2 rabbits, and 17 mini pigs. ​ Thank you for your support as we continue our mission to provide animals with a loving forever home.
