About this campaign

We are raising awareness for the inequitable allocation of funds by the National Cancer Institute for children's cancer research; only 4% of the NCI annual budget for research benefits childhood cancer as a whole.  The implied inequity here refers to the disproportionately small amount of funding allocated for childhood cancer research considering the urgency of need, cumulative deaths, regular frequency of incidence, and low survival rates like DIPG, which has had no survivors in over 35 years of clinical record.

Jack's Angels is making these available for Childhood Cancer Awareness Advocates and friends of this movement.  Jack's Angels Foundation is dedicated to raising awareness for DIPG, diffuse intrinsic pontine glioma, responsible for the majority of pediatric brain tumor deaths every year in the US, and about 12% incidence of pediatric brain tumors, the leading cause of cancer-related death.  It's a poignant example of how, no matter how low the survival rate (0%) and regular the frequency of incidence (200-300 per year in the US), a childhood cancer is marginalized as rare and thus receives little research funding.  There's been no progress for pediatric brain tumors in over 35 years.  Childhood cancer survival rates have raised slightly overall due to advances in the treatment of leukemia for adults that has helped pediatric cases.  Unfortunately, the message many families get as to why there haven't been more effective treatments developed in all of this time is that the "numbers aren't great enough for investors", which means, for all real and practical purposes, corporate profits are more important than our children's lives.
Back of the shirt:  Did you know that most of the terminal cases of pediatric cancer in the news this year have been DIPG?  AJ Peterson, and Lauren Hill--the promising young athlete who inspired so many, and honored at the ESPY's out of public demand, never had mention of the monster she battled.  Jack's Angels is campaigning during Childhood Cancer Awareness Month for a National Day for DIPG.  We strongly believe that more awareness for the suffering of DIPG children and their families could be the literal fulcrum from which awareness for the injustice in research funding allocations for childhood cancer is leveraged.  We're going to try!  Why won't they "Just Say It!"?
Thank you for your support--and BE AN ACTIVIST THIS YEAR!  Blessings, Janet at Jack's Angels
