For the 9th year the John R. Tamburri, Jr Memorial AMVETS Post 917 hosts wounded warriors from the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to receive a VIP weekend in Staten Island, NY.

All funds raised will go directly to AMVETS Post 917, 49 Boulevard St, Staten Island, NY 10314

In 2009 the John R. Tamburri, Jr Memorial Post 917 started a program called Staten Island Welcomes Our Heroes (SIWOH) that escorts a group of wounded warriors from the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center to Staten Island for a VIP weekend. The SIWOH weekend includes staying at an upscale Hotel, superior eating, and activities organized by the NYPD, FDNY, USCG, FOP Lodge 120, and VFW Post 7172.
