About this campaign
Yogie and Friends is a 100% volunteer driven organization. ALL money raised will go to purchase cat food, cat litter, and for veterinary care of all the resident cats and kittens.
Feline leukemia virus (FeLV) and feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) are among the most common infectious diseases of cats. Feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) is a type of virus called a retrovirus. It is in the same family as feline leukemia virus (FeLV) and human immunodeficiency virus (HIV, the virus that causes AIDS). It attacks the immune system, and as a result, the cat is unable to fight off various infections and cancers. Approximately 2.5% of cats in the United States are infected with FIV.
Feline leukemia is a cancerous disease caused by feline leukemia virus (FeLV). FeLV causes diseases other than leukemia including other cancers and immunodeficiency. Cats may not start to show signs of disease for months or years after being infected with FeLV. Infection with FeLV is a major cause of illness and death in domestic cats. Approximately 2.3% of cats in the United States are infected with FeLV.
Retroviruses are species-specific. This means a feline retrovirus like FIV will only infect cats; a human retrovirus such as HIV will only infect humans. These are NOT death sentences. Sadly, some are cats and kittens are still being unnecessarily euthanized when they test positive for these viruses.
We are trying to educate and save as many of these cats and kittens from unnecessary death. We cannot save them all, but we give those we do the best care and love possible. This is why we need you. To help us to buy cat food, cat litter, and provide quality veterinary care. THIS is where ALL the money goes. We hope you will help us.

I love animals and would save them all if I had the money. I have 5 dogs and 3 cats of my own that I can barely keep fed and immunized but give up stuff so they don't have to.
Jenny was so wonderful to us when my mom was getting cancer treatments in Shreveport six years ago and she let my family come in and see the big cats twice. It was something to take away the monotony of the time in Shreveport and made my mom smile.
I have supported Yogie and Friends since 2002 when I donated the original Web Site. I did so until 2007 when I could no longer give it the time it required. I love the cats and I still support them. I have a cat as my best friend!
