About this campaign
My honey/partner Vickie Pieper (for 18yrs) was diagnosed September of 2016 with Stage 4 Neuroendocrine Carcinoma. Same cancer Steve Jobs died from. Less than 2% of the population get this rare type of cancer. We started treatment 2x a week was started at the Comprehensive Cancer Center in Las Vegas. Presently, she is having treatment 5x a week.
I'm a Yale School of Music trained Classical Guitarist and a GIT Trained Pop/Jazz Guitarist. In December I started volunteering my music 1-2x a week at the cancer center so I could be with Vickie during treatment AND to play for the other 20-60 people also getting treatment. The patients love it and so does the staff.
The one thing EVERY PERSON with CANCER or some other nasty disease needs is HOPE. The chance that they can get well or live a bit longer with a better quality of life. Since Vickie's diagnoses, we've met many people with Stage 4 that have beat it and we still believe a miracle is possible. The "I BELIEVE IN MIRACLES" Shirt is meant to raise awareness that miracles are happening everyday. When people see the shirt, it reminds them it's possible.

In February 2014, Vickie Pieper was diagnosed with lung cancer. with immediate treatment, we were able to get rid of it within 6 months.
Fast forward to early September 2016, Vickie started feeling some pain in her ribs and hip. Her primary care doctor suggested doing a petscan and compare it to the results from 2014.
The results came back in a couple days. The doctor (Dr Obarra) said Vickie, " your previous cancer has grown back and spread to your ribs, hip, lungs and liver. It's called, Neuroendocrine Carcinoma."
Neuroendocrine Carcinoma is a rare type of cancer. From what we’ve discovered, less than 2% of the population gets this form of cancer.
There are 3 main types of this cancer: Carcinoid, Pancreatic and Lung. This is also known as the Steve Jobs cancer, the late APPLE founder. He had Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors.
Vickie didn't want to use chemo as it would be to hard on her body. so we have been using alternative study medications that our doctor has recommended which are VERY EXPENSIVE, between $2,000 - $3500 per treatment once a month. Plus she started hydration 2x aweek and now 5x a week.
We have been doing these treatments since November 2016.
In December 2016 I started donating my time at the Comprehensive Cancer Center of Nevada by playing my guitar for all the patients. I play on most days Vickie has treatments, which is Tuesday and Friday.
The last week in January 2017 Vickie got SHINGLES and she still is not recovered yet. Shingles is a EXTREMELY PAINFUL thing. She can't comfortably to wear a shirt because it's to painful. Sleep is a challenge because everytime she moves she's in pain. The pain medication has not worked. Because she has trouble sleeping, she is ALWAY tired.
Her insurance covers some expenses and we are also getting some funding to cover most of the expenses for the medication thru grants. But its not covering everything. Cancer treatment cost a lot of money.
