About this campaign

The Hurricane Harvey Book Club was set up to distract little minds - to bring a little normal back to a not so normal situation. Out of love it grew and became a movement. It is a small dose of good that we are all searching for right now.

The Hurricane Harvey Book Club was originally started with 70 members who were my students, past and present, friends, and family. Never, ever, would I have imagined that it would have grown and reached to the degree that it has. It has been a blessing to so many kiddos (and their families). It is a safe space to go to forget about all of the devastation that surrounds our community. Texas is big and we have big hearts, but this little community of readers has shown me that Texas just got a little bigger with all of the support shown from around the world. Each little video has been a blessing. Each child who grabbed his or her book before evacuating so that they could post a video is braver than brave. Each one of you are the light.

As a teacher in Fort Bend & life-long learner, I know the importance of literacy. You were a valuable life-line to so many during the storm. Thank you.

I live in one of the counties affected by Hurricane Harvey in Texas. I want to support children and libraries get good books for children to enjoy and stretch.

As a librarian, I know how important it is to continue the love of literacy at any age and especially after a disaster.
