About this campaign

BFRBWeek is celebrated on the first week of October every year. During this week our community comes together to help end the isolation and shame caused by BFRBs through an awareness campaign. Your support will help us reach ONE MILLION people with social media advertising!

member_benefitspngThe TLC Foundation for Body-Focused Repetitive Behaviors is a donor-supported, nonprofit organization devoted to ending the suffering caused by hair pulling disorder, skin picking disorder, and related body-focused repetitive behaviors.

We take a comprehensive approach to our mission: creating a community of support for affected individuals; providing referrals to treatment specialists and resources; training professionals to recognize and treat BFRBs; and directing research into their causes, treatment, and prevention.

When TLC was founded in 1991 as the Trichotillomania Learning Center, hair pulling, skin picking, and related disorders were virtually unheard of. There were no educational resources, no support community, and no clinicians or researchers who were expert in this field. Thanks to the support of our community, over the past 25 years, hundreds of therapists have begun specializing in BFRB treatment. Skin picking disorder became a recognized disorder in the DSM-5, the comprehensive diagnostic mental health manual. Support groups have formed and thrived all over the U.S. and increasingly, around the world. Treatment approaches have improved greatly. Most crucially, millions of people have learned that they are not alone.

Your support of TLC funds the world's only large-scale, cutting-edge research to find cures for BFRBs, train therapists in effective BFRB treatment, and end the isolation of individuals and families affected by BFRBs. TLC Community Resources are funded by people like you giving what they can, to transform the lives of individuals and families affected by BFRBs.
