About this campaign
Sara Cunningham, a selfless volunteer, Joint Base Andrews Attic Manager, Key Spouse, and wife and mother of veteran Airmen, came home on 26 September 2017 after months of intensive care following a massive head injury that nearly took her life. She has a long and difficult rehabilitation effort ahead to begin to stand and walk on her own, eat and sleep normally, rebuild impacted brain and muscular function, and recover lost memory. The significant costs associated with home therapy are not covered by the Cunningham's' health insurance. The purpose of this fundraiser is to offset these costs so Sara can recover the critical life skills she lost due to her head injury last May.
Sara Cunningham has dedicated much of her adult life to supporting military families in need. Throughout her husband's career as an Airman and his second career as a government civilian working for the Air Force, Sara has volunteered countless hours as a base volunteer and Key Spouse. Most recently, as the Manager of the Andrews Attic for over 3 years, she volunteered over 40 hours per week ensuring low-income military families and retirees had free access to food, diapers, baby formula, lightly used furniture, clothes, and toys. She also established a re-donation program off-base, whereby unused donations to the Andrews Attic are re-donated off-base in return for money that goes directly to military families in crisis through a charitable organization called Operation Warmheart. For these and many other voluntary efforts, she was recently awarded the Joint Base Andrews Volunteer Excellence Award for 2016. Sara Cunningham is a hometown hero who has given all of herself to the benefit of veterans and military families across the world. Please show your support to her by purchasing a Wingmen for Sara t-shirt!
