As many of you know, Oak Street 4th grader Katie King was diagnosed in August with metastatic Ewing Sarcoma. She faces a long year of treatments ahead and will most likely receive the bulk of her care in an out of state hospital. One of the many, many unfortunate aspects of having a child who has an illness is that it also comes with astronomical costs for the family. We are trying to help deflect some of the costs for the King family, so they can focus all of their energy on helping Katie to get better. Aside from medical costs, they will also have so many other financial burdens to contend with--hospital parking, tolls, gas, food for the family during Katie's hospital stays, potential hotel stays, items to keep Katie and her little brother Jake occupied during these long days, and the list goes on and on. In addition to this being a fundraising effort, we are hoping to "paint the town purple" with these shirts to show Katie, Kim, DJ and Jake that they are thought of and so cared for by our school community and our town.
