About this campaign

Wildlife Rescue league is a nonprofit 501 (c) (3) organization dedicated to providing care for sick, injured and orphaned wildlife with the intent of releasing them back into their native habitat. Our licensed rehabilitators, located throughout the Northern Virginia and surrounding areas, work with a network of volunteers, wildlife centers, animal shelters, humane societies, nature centers and veterinary hospitals to provide life-saving work for wildlife. It takes the help of many dedicated WRL volunteers to staff WRL's Helpline, to locate transporters for animals and to find rehabilitators to care for the animals. WRL is supported entirely by donations from the public. The funds raised during this T-shirt campaign will go directly to buying food, medicine and supplies for local rehabilitators helping Virginia's native wildlife.

For Wildlife Rescue League’s third annual T-shirt fundraiser, the focus is on a majestic raptor, the owl. These intriguing birds are a perfect Halloween symbol. This is a time of the year when owls are noticeably active as they are establishing their winter territories. Everyone knows that owls “hoot.” They also “hiss,” “bark,” “screech,” “whistle,” “whinny,” and “scream.” They are nocturnal by nature but some are diurnal and active both night and day — when there is still some daylight left or shortly before daybreak. Fun facts about owls: Many owl species have asymmetrical ears and are able to pinpoint the location of sounds in multiple dimensions. Their eyes are tube-shaped and completely immobile, providing binocular vision. Owls can rotate their necks 270 degrees. A group of owls is called a parliament. The tiniest owl in the world, Elf Owl, is only 5 inches tall. The largest North American owl, the Great Gray Owl, is up to 32 inches tall. Barn Owls can eat up to 1,000 mice per year. animal-animal-photography-blur-357159 1jpg
The most dangerous threats to owls include: poisons used to kill rodents that remain in their bodies and and herbicides that infect mice and rats that eat grain; collisions with cars and fences, habitat loss and poaching.

I admire and thank you for your work. Long ago you took a robin I had rescued and sent it out into the world.

Worthy Cause. Volunteers connect with the public, rehabbers, and participating vets to save wildlife. The cost of food, healthcare, lodging and transportation from vets to rehabbers is paid primarily by the volunteers and offset by donations.

I'm a transporter and love what this organization does.

With out having the Wildlife Rescue League, I would be completely lost whenever I see an injured animal that needs our help. Thank you Wildlife Rescue League! Roger and Masha
