Deputy Sandeep Singh Dhaliwal was killed in the line of duty in Harris County Texas on Friday September 27th. Deputy Dhaliwal was fatally shot in the head from behind while conducting a routine traffic stop in the area he patrolled. He was a well known deputy in the Houston community, and a respected humanitarian providing aid whenever and wherever he could. Deputy Dhaliwal woke up that morning, put on his uniform like every other day, proudly pinned a badge to his turban and unknowingly said goodbye to his wife and 3 young children for the last time.

He was a man dedicated to his Sikh faith and his community. He will be remembered not only for his work as a police officer but also his impact being one of the first turban wearing police officers in the country, paving the way for many others after him. In 2015, Dhaliwal pushed for a policy that allowed Sikh officers to be able to maintain the articles of their faith by wearing a turban and having a beard on duty. This was a monumental moment for Sikhs in law enforcement throughout the country and motivated others to join the law enforcement community. Deputy Dhaliwal was not only a role model in the Sikh community, he made a positive impact on everyone he came into contact with. Whether it was organizing resources for people affected by Hurricane Harvey or building a bridge between the police and public in his local community. Dhaliwal was a man that was admired and respected by all.

On Friday September 27th The Sikh community lost a brother. Our nation lost a hero, and the world lost a great man. Our hearts hurt to think of him laying on the floor in his uniform. Our hearts hurt to think of the turban that he wore so proudly stained with his own blood.

Sandeep Singh devoted his life to his community and creating a positive change. He was able to show the world that your identity as a American citizen isn’t determined by your religion or background and that at the end of the day we are one. He changed the law by becoming the law and led the youth by example showing them the right way to make change, the right way to represent their religion. Even after his passing he has United the nation and shown the world that the Turban of a Sikh represents honor, self respect, and courage.

His words and lessons will not be forgotten. His legacy will live on through all those who he touched and impacted. Thank you Deputy Sandeep Singh Dhaliwal. You’re legacy will live on forever.

All proceeds collected through the sale of these shirts will go directly to the family of Deputy Dhaliwal.
