About this campaign

All funds raised will be paid directly to Potomac Overlook Regional Park, for the acquisition of a new enclosure for our resident Eastern Screech Owl that will go on display for the public at our nature center.

Potomac Overlook Regional Park of NOVA Parks is home to four non-releasable birds of prey that we proudly care for: a barred owl, a great horned owl, a screech owl, and a red shouldered hawk. Donated to us by the Raptor Conservancy of Virginia, these birds have been deemed non-releasable due to various injuries they acquired while living in the wild. These injuries would severely limit their chance of survival without shelter and human aid. Here at our park we provide appropriate shelter, food, water, and more for our raptor residents. In return, they act as valuable interpretive ambassadors for our many visitors and program attendants. Our newest addition, an Eastern Screech owl named Smoke, was hit by a car and brought in for rehabilitation to the Raptor Conservancy in 2012 with a broken wing. He has been with us at Potomac Overlook since February of 2019. Smoke is incredibly popular at our programs and camps and is a fantastic education animal. While our other 3 birds are displayed in outdoor enclosures, Smoke has grown accustomed to a more indoor lifestyle and is currently in an enclosure in our park office that only staff have access to. Our mission is to either build or acquire a new enclosure for him, one that can be displayed at the nature center for all to see, and any donations would go a long way towards making this possible. We can’t get over how adorable Smoke is, and we want the world to know as well! Show everyone that you are a raptor supporter with these comfy and limited-time only shirts. A great present for friends, family and loved ones and in time for the holidays!

My daughter attended Camp Overlook and had lunch with Smoke. She absolutely fell in love with him and will be so proud to tell others about him whenever she wears this shirt!
