McKay's Reopening Fund

Many of our fellow independent bookshops have closed permanently, or turned to raising funds to survive the economic impact of the pandemic. We hope to raise some funds to get us through this by providing you with these awesome shirts.

We have received some stimulus funds from the Payroll Protection Program, and have, in fact, protected our employee's pay, which has continued uninterrupted and unreduced, even prior to receipt of the PPP funds. The maximum amount of loan we could receive is based on payroll, and that's where the money is going. Our staff is definitely our priority through this: we can't do it without them. We can't do it without you, our valuable customers either. Thank you for your loyalty throughout this.

Meanwhile, however, we're still on the hook for rent and utilities. We have dipped into what savings we had to cover expenses prior to, and over-and-above the PPP funds, but to be perfectly honest, we are going to need some help to get completely through this. None of this will go in our pockets. This money is dedicated to rent and utilities, just to keep the lights on until we can welcome you back completely.

If everyone who sees this purchases a shirt, we'll have more than enough. In fact, should we reach our goal of one month's rent, at least 50% of the rest will be donated to the local food bank.
