VACCINception: Arm Yourself Against COVID-19!

The story of this t-shirt is the story of an idea gone too far!

As a family doctor, I saw firsthand the devastating effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. Like many of my medical colleagues, I was super excited when the vaccine finally because available – there would be an end to this pandemic in sight! While I was waiting to get my vaccine, my social media feeds were filled with my friends getting their vaccines, urging everyone to get their shots when it was available for them. I remember thinking, this is great, but my patients are not going to be seeing my tweets. Instead of posting it on social media, what if I printed a picture of myself getting the vaccine on a shirt and wore it to work?



And that's what I did! The shirt prompted countless conversations about the COVID-19 vaccine, and many of my patients who were on the fence were persuaded by the fact that I got my shot.

But the t-shirt idea had to go a couple steps further. What if I wear the shirt when getting my second dose, take a picture of that, and make a shirt out of THAT picture?!?!

And that’s what I did! The inception version of the vaccine shirt. The VACCINception Shirt, if you will :)

Lots of you asked about buying a shirt, and so here we finally are! I hope you love the design as much as I do. It’ll be screen printed with two colors and the shirt that I am wearing on the design will match the color of the shirt you buy.

I am also excited to offer this shirt as a fundraiser for Physicians for a National Health Program NY Metro Chapter. The pandemic and Black Lives Matter movement have made more people aware of the racial injustices in healthcare. I’ve been involved with PNHP NY Metro since med school and I’ve been impressed with how much they are highlighting racial injustice in healthcare and are working towards dismantling it. Single payer universal healthcare, which PNHP advocates for, will be a major step towards healthcare justice, and here in NY, we are close to making that a reality for everyone in the state!

• It’s a super soft blend that is incredibly comfortable
• The short-sleeve t-shirts come in the same Sea Green as my original shirt (love the color) and in Yellow Gold (I’m even more excited about this one!)
• The long-sleeve t-shirts with a hood in Caribbean Blue or Heather Green work great in all climates (especially in doctor’s offices that are too cold all the time!)
