About this campaign
The Fighting Smelt (Lower Columbia College's competitive intercollegiate speech and debate team) are working hard to build up the Michael Dugaw Forensics Endowment. This endowment generates scholarships to support our competitors into perpetuity, and the more money we have in the fund the more scholarships we can provide. Successful competitors in collegiate forensics put in an incredible amount of work, and it is important that we do what we can to support their growth.
This year, we are selling a new Fighting Smelt hoodie - available in five different colors. It's a lightweight sweatshirt that we think will be equally perfect for summer evenings and the chilly winter.
The Mike Dugaw Forensics Endowment is managed by the Lower Columbia College Foundation - a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Your charitable contribution may be partially tax deductible to the extent allowable by law. Actual cost of sweatshirts and shipping fees are not tax deductible. We will provide more information as it becomes available.
Want to make a donation without buying a shirt? No problem. You can donate directly to the Mike Dugaw Endowed Scholarship Fund through the LCC Foundation Website. Simply select "I am supporting: other" and write "Mike Dugaw Endowed Scholarship" in the "Other Designation" box.
Mike "Sir" Dugaw took over the Fighting Smelt speech and debate team in in the early 1970s and transformed it into a strong tool for education and competitive force. Several hundred students went through Lower Columbia College's forensics program under Mike's mentorship, and we hope that several hundred more will be able to have the same level success in the future.
When Sir passed away in December 2018, we redoubled our efforts to fully fund this endowed scholarship that was established in his name. We have since met our initial goal and are able to offer a modest scholarship to one student per year. Now are setting our sights higher as we try to expand the endowment to be able to offer more meaningful scholarships to even more students in the future.
