About this campaign

This year the Charlotte's Purpose crew will focus our Weekend of Kindness efforts on creating care packages for families who have experienced a stillbirth. Care packages will be donated to Holy Cross Hospital and will include a gown for the baby (hand sewn from a donated wedding dress via our Wrapped in Love Project), a hand sewn baby blanket, a journal, a bracelet, a memorial baby book, a receiving blanket to wrap the baby in, a copy of "It's OK that You're Not OK" by Meghan Devine, a heart stone, a cloth bag to hold all of the care items, and a grief resources collected by Charlotte's Purpose.

The CDC reports that 1 in 160 births in the US result in stillbirth and numbers have increased during the Covid-19 pandemic. Covid precautions often mean that mothers cannot have extra visitors in the labor and delivery ward, meaning that parents facing the stillbirth of their child are beginning their grieving process more alone than ever before. Our care packages serve as a small comfort in the long process of rebuilding after loss for these families, a reminder that a network of support exists outside of the hospital walls.

Charlotte's Purpose was established in 2017 in memory of Heather and Ian's beloved daughter, Charlotte Elizabeth Carnaghan, who was stillborn just two weeks before her due date. The organization's website provides grief resources for mothers, partners, siblings, and grandparents who have experienced a stillbirth, as well as for those who hope to support others facing this particular shade of grief. In addition to providing grief resources, Charlotte's Purpose hosts a yearly Weekend of Kindness in Charlotte's memory. Friends, family members, and strangers participate in kindness projects both big and small all over the globe. Please visit the website for more information about our past and present kindness projects!
