Kaige Dunham who has Spinal Muscular Atrophy (SMA) type 1 . Would like to travel from his home state of California to Washington DC to attend next year's Families of SMA Confrence . You see, when your diagnosed with SMA your told that your child won't live past 2 years of age. Well Kaige has beaten those odds 5 times over. Kaige is 10 years old , and it's about time he sets out to see this beautiful country while on his way to his FIRST EVER SMA conference, where doctors from all over the world and children just like him will gather and take part in education,information, and just a fun time. It won't be a normal road trip like most families partake in . No, it's a little more complicated then that. There are breathing machines , suction machine, machines to monitor his oxygen and his heart rate , machines to feed him and cough him . Then there are back up machines to all the machines that are listed . There are special ingredient that you can't buy at a gas station while on the road. So everything must be packed and hauled . There will be many stops cause this truly will be a once in lifetime road trip.
