About this campaign
The National Organization of Parents of Blind Children
(NOPBC) is a division of the National Federation of the Blind. Our programming focuses on educating parents on how to raise blind children to become successful, independent blind adults.
Our programming includes:
Holding informational seminars at our annual convention.
Providing free braille books through our braille book fair.
Introduction to cane use through our Ca e Walk < r>Soc al a d recre ional pportuni ies for the children and parents alike.

We specialize in reliable information and positive attitudes about blindness and the abilities of blind people. We don't view blindness as a tragedy or as the defining factor in a child's life; instead, we see it as just one of the child's many characteristics.
Our status as a division of the National Federation of the Blind, the largest and most influential organization of blind people in the world, provides many benefits. Our members are well informed about the technological, legislative, and societal issues that affect blind people. We also enjoy the resources, support, and expertise of 50,000 blind people who can serve as mentors and role models for our children. And finally, as our children grow up, they, too, have the Federation to belong to.
The purpose of the NOPBC is to:
Create a climate of opportunity for blind children in home and society.
Provide information and support to parents of blind children.
Facilitate the sharing of experience and concerns among parents of blind children.
Develop and expand resources available to parents and their children.
Help parents of blind children gain understanding and perspective through partnership and contact with blind adults.
Function as an integral part of the National Federation of the Blind in its ongoing effort to achieve equality and opportunity for all blind persons.

As a blind student I know firsthand how important braille literacy is. I support the NOPB C's advocacy and efforts to enhance opportunities for the next generation of blind students.
Braille is so very important to the blind to be literate. Electronic tools are all well and good but blind children Have a harder time learning how to construct sentences and correct spelling to be understood. I had to learn Braille as a 58 year old
I had a student in my class who was visually impaired and she touched my heart! Really enjoyed learning some Braille with her ;)
I love Braille and am so thankful that by using Braille our granddaughter and others can read. My favorite pastime!
I have a blind son.
