About this campaign

September 29, 2015 will forever be a defining day in my personal history. I don’t remember his exact words, but I remember the tone of the neurologist’s voice, the hurried way he explained the images on the MRI, and the agony of watching my husband crumble under the weight of the news. I had never met anyone with Multiple Sclerosis up to that day (or so I thought). I used to read Stephen White novels where the main character’s wife struggled with MS. Did she end up in a wheel chair? I couldn’t remember as I consoled my husband and let the weight of the news begin to sink in. All I could see was an image of Annette Funicello late in her life, struggling with MS.

I had a few choices to make after receiving that diagnosis. I could wallow in despair and accept my fate and sit and wait for my body to deteriorate, or I could fight with everything I had for my health. That's exactly what I did. I've become a runner, I've focused on my health and eating well, I lost over 180 pounds, and I'm in the best shape of my life. I can't control tomorrow, but I can make today the best it can be and that's what I'm going to continue to do.

September 2020 marks 5 years since MS Diagnosis and 5 years of remission. I can think of no better way to celebrate than to run a 5K with my friends on Saturday, September 26 at 8:00 am! If you live locally, you can meet up with us at Freeman Lake Park in Elizabethtown, Kentucky for a socially distanced, not-timed, not organized run :). If you're not a runner, that's okay! You can walk with us that morning or you can choose to do any activity on your own when it's convenient for you. If you are not local, you can run or walk or do any activity that challenges you that morning! Just post a picture of yourself with the hashtag #NotTodayMS5K so we can see your sweet face! We just want our friends to celebrate with us and raise some money for an organization that is near to our hearts--National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

I'm just a girl, a mom, a wife, but most of all a daughter of The King. I love coffee and very dark chocolate and sometimes I do things like run half marathons and write stuff. I also happen to have Multiple Sclerosis. My goal every day is to choose JOY!
