My son passed way of an overdose it will be 2 years this Aug.
My son is a recovering addict who has been in and out of jail.
Incarceration has not worked. We need a better plan to help people. Not locking them up and ignoring the real issues.
We lost our beautiful son, Brandon, on December 24, 2015, to a heroin overdose. At the time of his death, Brandon was placed in a state correctional halfway house where he and another young man lost their lives in a locked down, state run facility.
Medication assisted rehab is the only cure.
Addict son for 6 years , who should have been sent to rehab instead of prison because he always goes back to stealing in the end.

There are not enough programs within the jail system to provide help to addicts. Some do exist, but we somehow need to get rid of the stigma of drug addiction. Only then will help be provided to those who so desperately need it.
