About this campaign
The American Shakespeare Center is dedicated to making Shakespeare accessible to all students. Since the post-pandemic return of student matinees in 2022, ASC has awarded over $15,000 dollars in financial aid, giving access to Shakespeare to over 1,600 students from over 50 schools across Virginia and students from multiple areas in West Virginia, North Carolina, and South Carolina. We are thrilled to launch our Shakespeare for Students campaign to continue this critical work and help mitigate the rising cost of field trip transportation. With your support, we aim to underwrite the costs of student matinee tickets for schools in need so that the cost of tickets will not prohibit their ability to visit the Blackfriars Playhouse. Every dollar raised will contribute to providing reduced or free access to the timeless works of Shakespeare for students who may not otherwise have the opportunity.

My granddaughter, Miranda Schnakenber, is teaching students who need this help.
My daughter has been a part of the ASC drama club for a few cycles and we want to support other young people connecting to Shakespeare.
ASC makes Shakespeare come alive. I remember the first time I saw SSE in middle school and I'm glad to pay that magic forward
School matinees are awesome. The students leave Blackfriars inspired by Shakespeare, live theater, and the magic of our talented troupes.
