Laura's Story,
Written by Tricia, Laura's sister:
Some of you know my sister, Laura Walls. She's been a paraplegic for about 15 years that has come with compression sores that have been on going. She had cervical cancer & beat it. She has been through so much this year alone. She fought small cell lung cancer & had the lower lobe of one lung removed. , she beat it. One of the latest was spending close to 4 months in the hospital for necrotizing fasciitis, a flesh eating bacteria. She had 4 surgeries for it. She's been home a little over a month & not been doing good. She was forgetting things, repeating herself, couldn't sit up. I tried and tried to get her to go to the hospital but she would refuse until finally on Wednesday, Oct 10th, we took her for her wound care appointment. When we finished she became catatonic for over 15 minutes, we took her to the hospital right away. They ran a cat scan, we finally went to a room, after a few minutes she went catatonic in front of the doc and nurses another 15 minutes. The doctor said she had a mass in back of her head. They transferred her to carbondale hospital for emergency surgery. She had alot of fluid on the brain, so they put a tube in her head to drain it. The mass is a tumor pressing against her cerebellum. Docs say only thing safe for her in her condition is radiation. She was awake and alert while I talked to the neurosurgeon. So I asked her if she understood everything we talked about, she shook her head yes. I asked do you want radiation to shrink it? She shook her head no. I know she's had a rough year and she's tired of fighting. Even if I say yes it will come back within 3 months. I've helped take care of her for so long, I've seen her pain. She is ready to go be with her mom, dad & grandson, Jack. I love her so much, she's not only my sister but she's my best friend. So please keep her in your prayers, her children and family as well. We need all the prayers and strength we can get right now. Thank you.
The shirts/hoodies are Gray for Brain Cancer/Tumor Awareness & Purple because it's Laura's favorite color.
Laura is a Christian & this brings comfort. She is a Servant to our Lord & Savior. We will Praise Him through this!!!
If we exceed the amount needed for Laura, we will be donating to a very special program that is near & dear to our friend Joey's heart. He is also fighting like Laura, with a brain tumor. We love them both so much & are continually praying for peace & comfort.
