About this campaign

Purchase Sweat For Breath Foundation athletic shirts and hoodies to raise awareness during Lung Cancer Awareness Month. Post a picture of your gear using the hashtag #SweatForBreath!

Family and Friends,

November 2022 was a life-changing month for me. In less than 30 days, I was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer, learned the specific mutation of my cancer (ALK+), and began my targeted therapy (a daily pill) that I am still taking.

This November, as part of Lung Cancer Awareness Month, Lisa, and I are launching our second annual, month-long fundraising effort (#SweatForBreath) to raise both money for ALK+ research and promote awareness about this disease and my story to change the stigma often associated with lung cancer.

All of the proceeds from the #SweatForBreath campaign will go towards the research of Dr. Vincent Lam (my oncologist) at The Johns Hopkins Sidney Kimmel Comprehensive Cancer Center in Baltimore, MD (my hometown), who specializes in ALK+ specifically. Through his research, Dr. Lam is particularly focused on investigating why currently available immunotherapies don’t work well for ALK+ lung cancer and developing novel immunotherapies that can better target ALK (e.g. vaccines). He currently runs the world’s first ALK+ peptide vaccine clinical trial that is now underway.

More Research = More Life

What You Can Do

Donate! at www.SweatForBreath.org!

Sweat! Walk, run, bike, row, hike, climb — doesn’t matter. Push yourself to do something hard so you know that you can do something hard and come out better on the other side!

Share! Last year, what started as an email to friends and family quickly grew into a community impelled to make a difference. Many donors found out about the campaign from a friend or virtually through the social media posts of those willing to #SweatForBreath.

We encourage you to:
1. Share the donation link with friends and family
2. Send a picture to david@sweatforbreath.org
3. Post on social media a picture of you doing your activity (use the hashtag #SweatForBreath)
4. Challenge a friend to a #SweatForBreath post!

Today, I #SweatForBreath for my friend @DavidCornbrooks, who was diagnosed with ALK+ #lungcancer at the age of 38. He’s a former Division 1 athlete and has never smoked a cigarette in his life!

He currently benefits from a drug approved as a first-line treatment only a few years ago. There is research for new treatments underway that have the potential to add years to the lives of #ALKpositive patients like him.

More research = more life.

He and his wife, @LisaCornbrooks started @SweatForBreathFoundation to help the next generation of ALK+ lung cancer patients.
