About this campaign

Duke Ellington

Duke Ellington was the most important composer in the history of jazz as well as being a bandleader who held his large group together continuously for almost 50 years. The two aspects of his career were related; Ellington used his band as a musical laboratory for his new compositions and shaped his writing specifically to showcase the talents of his band members, many of whom remained with him for long periods. Ellington also wrote film scores and stage musicals, and several of his instrumental works were adapted into songs that became standards. In addition to touring year in and year out, he recorded extensively, resulting in a gigantic body of work that was still being assessed a quarter century after his death.

Proceeds will go toward the VSM Education Programs. The t-shirts will be limited edition’s and will only be available during the monthly campaign.

Vintage Swing Movement presents:

    Swing It!

Program Purpose: To expose the next generation of dancers to authentic swing music and tell the story of the artists who created it.

Each month VSM will release a new Swing It! T-shirt that will highlight one of the artist from our monthly Swing It! playlists.  The playlist will contain music from three vintage artists and one modern artist. Along with the playlist VSM will release swing musician trading cards highlighting the Artist of the Month.  Swing communities can print the card and make it available to dancers the night the playlist is played. In so doing, dancers can be introduced to popular swing artists and learn more about their story.

Proceeds from the t-shirt sales will go toward the VSM Education Programs. The t-shirts will be limited edition’s and will only be available during the monthly campaign.
