Take Heart Counseling & Equine Assisted Therapy

Take Heart Counseling & Equine Assisted Therapy's mission is to empower individuals and families to find hope, healing, and wholeness through therapeutic work with horses. Meagan began this journey in 2009, after reading the book Hope Rising by Kim Meeder, which told of Kim's work with emotionally hurting children and families at Crystal Peaks Youth Ranch in Bend, Oregon. Desiring to help people using horses for years, Meagan realized this was her calling, and enrolled in the Professional Counseling master's program at Lancaster Bible College to learn all she could about serving through counseling. In summer of 2014, after visiting Crystal Peaks, Meagan knew it was time to open Take Heart and begin working with the community at a small farm outside Ephrata, PA. In August of 2015, Meagan and her husband bought a property in Mohnton, PA to build a farm for Take Heart. They opened the doors to this new facility in April, 2016. Today Take Heart is serving individuals and families from Berks, Lancaster, Lebanon, and Chester Counties. The focus on trauma-informed techniques is proving powerful for clients with depression, anxiety, PTSD, relationship issues, and family issues. Take Heart is focusing on growing the ministry by continuing to build on this new property as well as expanding from individual work to group work. Additionally, Meagan now teaches equine assisted therapy as an adjunct professor at Lancaster Bible College.
