About this campaign

Donations will go directly to helping my effort in raising a total of $10,000 for the LI Fight For Charity.

Long Island Fight for Charity, the nation’s only all-volunteer charity boxing event, is one of the most anticipated events in the region, attracting over 1,000 fans and supporters.

They are the only program in the United States or the world where local business people step in the boxing ring to raise funds for charity. This 501(c)3 nonprofit organization was co-founded by Jamie Austin, Jeff Cohen and Matt Silver in 2002, initially as a fundraising effort to seed the Long Island Community Chest, a charity with a mission to help individuals and families in need. This effort evolved into the founding of the Long Island Volunteer Boxers train for months and face each other in the ring at the Fight for Charity Main Event.

Events leading up to and including the Main Event provide business networking and promotional opportunities as well as a fun-filled, energizing atmosphere. Long Island corporations, small businesses, professionals, community leaders and food service companies support the Fight for Charity mission through sponsorships and donations.

Since 2002, over 300 volunteer boxers have participated in Fight for Charity and over $1 million has been raised for local charities including Long Island Community Chest, Genesis School, National Foundation for Human Potential (FREE) and more.

Baris “The Turkish Titan” Oztimurlenk is a Social Media Specialist with Hauppauge-based Core BTS (Business Technology Solutions), a customer-centric technology consulting organization dedicated to transforming IT experiences and delivering value to clients.

Baris is a member of the Fight for Charity Board. He became a Charity Boxer because his boss, Matt Pomara, became involved as a fighter in 2018. He fell in love with the sport and the organization.

Baris said, “I wanted to do something, not just for myself; I knew hard work and dedication in preparation for the Main Event would result in helping other Long Islanders in need.”

Baris will be donating a portion of his FFC fundraising to the TKO Strong Foundation for research to find a cure for Microvillus Inclusion Disease. Tom and Melissa Onorato founded the TKO Strong Foundation after their son Thomas Kevin Onorato was born in 2013 with Microvillus Inclusion Disease, a rare genetic disease.

“Training and boxing in the 16th Main Event means everything to me; I am proud to tell people I’m fighting for charity,” Baris added.

Baris earned his B.S. in Informatics with a concentration in Social Media at the University at Albany. He is a member of the University of Albany Alumni Association.

He is a graduate of Islip High School and resides in Islip.
