In May 2013, we received the diagnosis that our son Tyler has autism. We had to take a very hard and confusing road just to get to this point. Once there we were handed a packet of papers and were left standing at the start of a very misunderstood journey. Where do we go? What do we do next? No one knew. What I did know is that we loved our son and that we knew him better than anyone else. I also knew that there were other families out there hurting like we were. How do I raise a son who is so different from what the world considers normal? How do I understand what he needs and what he is or isn't capable of? How does all of this fit in life, in our community, in our schools, and in our family?

I want to help support Autism Speaks because they are trying to answer those very questions. They use donations to support research that will teach us more about what autism means. They use donations to support families who need extra special care and services to keep their children safe and increase their ability to function and communicate. They use donations to raise awareness so that when people hear the word autism, they might have a better understanding of what that actually means. Supporting my son means helping him find his place in this world. Right now autistic children do not have a place. They live on the outskirts of our society. Help our family in our cause to find the right place for every special needs child...they place they were meant to have in our world.
